Heidi is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who was drawn to mental health nursing as a student listening to community peers share their stories of recovery. Their vulnerability and openness helped Heidi to see that mental health affects us all. Hearing how their lives had been transformed by connection set the course of her nursing career early on.  #ourstorieshavepower.  Heidi graduated from the University of Auckland in 2004 with a Bachelor of Nursing degree.

Since 2005, Heidi worked in a variety of healthcare environments:  medical-surgical, cardiac, rehabilitative units, as well as adult and adolescent psychiatric units.  She spent six years at Craig Hospital working on both the Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Units, learning the importance of empowering patients and their families in recovery and wellness.  Heidi has worked within the veteran community.  Since becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in 2021, Heidi’s primary focus has been on outpatient mental health, treating children, adolescents and adults with a variety of mental health conditions.

Heidi has completed the EMDR basic training and offers EMDR along with supportive therapy, motivational interviewing and mindfulness-based therapy.   She has completed an Advanced Practice Psychotherapy Fellowship in Aug 2024.

Valeria Martinez Tenrerio, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC

Valeria/Val is a board-certified (bilingual) psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC). Her path into nursing and behavioral health was rather unusual. When she was a worker’s compensation and disability paralegal, she witnessed the difficulties that clients suffering from mental illnesses faced both in seeking and receiving mental health services and doing something to help fullfill unmet needs became her aspiration. Her passion for mental health continued to grow while working as an oncology bedside nurse where she provided care not just for her patient’s physical symptoms but also by helping them and their families cope with the anxiety, helplessness, and confusion that cancer brings.

Valeria has over 8 years of nursing experience working in oncology and medical surgical units at University of Colorado Hospital. She obtained her MSN from the University of Colorado Denver in 2023. Her behavioral health training and experience includes community settings as well as hospital-based settings. She enjoys working with older teens as well as adults of all ages with a wide array of diagnosis including grief, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, bipolar, and psychotic disorders. When offering treatment plans, she values her patients’ unique experience, world view, autonomy and self-determination and involves them in all aspects of the decision-making process.

Outside of work, Valeria is an advocate for the Hispanic community, currently serving as the President of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses in Denver. She cherishes her time with her husband and grown children and loves to travel and learn about other cultures.

Valeria sees teens and adults from ages 16+.  She is a bilingual provider, fluent in medical English and
Spanish.

Tate Ulrich, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC

I believe that clients are the experts in their own care, and that they should be active participants in a collaborative therapeutic alliance.  As a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). I received my master’s degree from Regis University in 2022. In addition to formal training, I have done extensive independent training to deepen my expertise in integrative and functional medicine. I hold a certification in integrative psychiatry from the Institute of Integrative Psychiatry in Boulder,
Colorado. I have also sought additional integrative/functional education and training through Psychiatry Redefined as well as other highly esteemed integrative professional organizations.

As an integrative mental health provider, I offer a holistic approach to care, using a combination of traditional, alternative and complimentary modalities providing more options for clients. I aim to delve deeper into the reasons behind a person’s mental health struggles, not just provide temporizing treatments that come with unpleasant side effects. Utilizing an exhaustive array of
functional testing modalities, integrative practitioners look for root causes of issues that can often be corrected using lifestyle modifications, nutrition, botanical and herbal supplements. It is important to me to personalize care for every individual, based on their unique circumstances, physiology, genetics and biochemistry.

Prior to becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I worked in emergency and critical care for over 30 years. As a helicopter EMS flight nurse for nearly 14 years, I have a deep and personal understanding of the first responder community, which remains one of my focused populations for mental health care.

I am a Colorado native, who enjoys time outside in the mountains, four-footed friends, gardening, family time, artistic outlets, antiques and any kind of puzzle.

Areas of interest/expertise include ADHD, OCD, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, gut health assessment and repair, PANS/PANDAS, organic acid testing, mental health nutrition, in-depth genetic assessment and counseling, and guided psychiatric medication discontinuation strategies.

Tate sees individuals aged 12+ and will begin scheduling on March 1, 2025 due to credentialing.
